Latest Update 10 March 2007

7/10/06 New Web Magazine. The OBU Web Team are pleased to re-launch "Follow Up", this time as a web magazine. Follow Up was originally published by Dai Hayward and his team at Wellington College Old Boys and was for many years one of New Zealand's top rugby club magazines. Follow Up is about players, members in New Zealand and overseas and all you ex-players. You are still vital to the success of OBU.
Write to us now and tell us about your activities, what you are up to, and anything else that's interesting. It could of course, relate to OBU rugby! We are happy to publish your contact details, and email address on this page, so other club members can contact you.
Email the OBU Web Team: Alastair Forde or OBU Web Team.

25/10/06 Letter to the OBU Web Team
Dear Sir/Madam
I read with interest the letter to the OBU Web Team from M C Copeland dated 17/10/06 and the OBU Web Team reply. As a proud bloke with green and white skin I note the following points:

1. 'Good looks and pedigree' are basic pre-requisites for OBU membership, never mind the photos.

2. I dare say Mr Copeland and Mr Catley both possess these attributes in spades. I would suggest the lack of photos of Copeland may be the result of a photographer who was clearly going for head shots. I suggest the photographer aim a little lower.

Regards
The Duck

22/10/06 OBU International News
The Griffin calling the Polish-Maori, The Griffin calling the Polish-Maori, where are you Polish-Maori?

Today in London, the biggest question on everyone's lips (those with green and white skin at least) is; 'where is the Polish-Maori??'

Reports are sketchy but it is generally accepted that he arrived in London on or about the 15th of June this year. Since then there have been only sporadic reported sightings in and about London, one sighting in Poland plus several photos of him with unknown women of predominately Scandinavian extraction. At the most recent extraordinary general meeting of OBU International at HQ, The Griffin, a motion was tabled that possibly he has 'gone missing' at the tender age of 28. Despite the extraordinary general meeting being widely advertised, the Polish-Maori failed yet again to make his long awaited debut at The Griffin. It was confirmed that he is gainfully employed and therefore not short of a pound or two. It was also confirmed that he is not married and as far as anyone knows, not currently attached in any way. In fact, the general consensus was that he has absolutely no excuse whatsoever for not attending the various OBU International events that have been held of late. Upon reflection and heated debate it was decided that the Polish-Maori would be given the benefit of the doubt for the time being but that the motion would remain tabled until such time as he explains himself.

Other News and Notices;

OBU stalwart, Mike Sisam made a fleeting visit to London on his whirlwind trip of Europe last month. Mike duly attended the extraordinary general meeting at The Griffin on his last day before returning to NZ. Good to catch up Mike, come again soon.

An official congrats from all OBU International to Shean O’Brien on his engagement. Everyone got together in a fine display of moderate and cultured celebration from the lads and others. That is until it was discovered that the bouncer had small feet, small wonder then that the bouncer went home with an earful. Good night.

The date for the 3rd Annual OBU International Christmas party has been penciled in as Saturday 2nd December. Put it in the diaries now and to all those not already in Europe, if your crazy enough to burn up your holidays in a London winter then book the date in and come along, it's a 'must attend' event. Snakey, we hope you can make it mate. To all those resident in Europe but not London, this is the event where attendance is expected so book your flight/train/bus/bike/row boat now.

It's Skinner's 30th birthday this coming November and he has organized a do on Saturday 4th of November, WAGS (Wives and Girlfriends) welcome. Come and celebrate 30 long years of Skinner talking out of his ass. Hopefully with his missus in attendance he might put a sock in it and the AB's will do all the talking on the Sunday.

And finally it is with great sadness I announce that Benton will be leaving London at the end of November. Benton has spent the last several years spreading the OBU way throughout Europe and has been a tireless contributor to OBU International during his time in London and he will be sorely missed. His dedication to the lifestyle and fondness for Latvia have been second to none. A full 'eulogy' and perhaps a word from the man himself may find its way to this site at the appropriate time. In the meantime for those in London, keep late November free as I imagine Benton will be giving it one final nudge before he gets on the plane.

That's it for this edition, not much in the way of scandal. That said, hopefully we'll be able to dredge up some filth some time soon. Benton'? Dom, for goodness sake, get off your ass, stop being so tight and make an appearance soon.

17/10/06 LETTER TO THE OBU WEB TEAM:
Dear Sir/Madam
I wish to register a complaint about the OBU website. I notice in viewing a selection of photographs of the 2006 OBU Prize Giving Ball at Dockside that there 8 photographs of the President, Mr Doug Catley and none of me. Summoning up all the humility I can find, there appears to have been an error of judgement here. I am better looking than Doug Catley, was better dressed, am from the "old money" Varsity side of the club and my house is more "city-end" Karori than his. To rectify this mistake I am prepared to re-pose each Friday evening at Dockside, but request prior warning as to when your photographer will be there so that I can wear the dinner suit to work that day.
Regards
M C (Mike) Copeland

Good looks and pedigree have nothing to do with the policy of placing photos on the website. If that was the case P C Osborne would not have his photo in the Big Shotz gallery. The policy comes down to money!! Mr Catley (below) was the sponsor for the night and deserves the prominence he was given. We are willing to do a full-page spread of you but the price will have to be negotiated.

11/10/06 "PUDDS" REPORTS : Good work on the new page on the website. Will pass it onto the lads over here and try and get them to use it.

7/10/06 OLD FRIENDS: It's hard to hide from the cameras of the OBU Web Team! We would, of course welcome any image you take when you catch up with old friends. Let's have the story too.

James Solari, OBU Colts coach 2003, now lives in Sydney. He works with Woodhead, who specialise in architecture. interiors, planning and graphics. He was spotted by the OBU Web Team wandering around The Rocks Market, on Saturday 22 July 2006.
It won't take long James, before you're headhunted by a local club and asked to coach their team to play winning rugby!

Many club members caught up with Spike (Keith Montgomery) on the Poneke game sidline on Saturday 8 July 2006. Spike played for the WCOB J3's (now the Pink Ginners) and from time to time was called in to play lock for the Senior teams of WCOB. Spike, not only played rugby in those days. He was an ace on the piano, and many club socials on Saturday nights featured a sing along with Spike hammering out the hits of Elton John, and Split Enz on the rather battered piano that Richard Boag (Boagie) had fully re-furbished and decorated. Richard is in the image below with Spike.

8/10/06 WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
